Cost Estimate

March 2024 update:  Final costs:  $1150 per person!!!!

Pre-trip estimate was:  $1500 per person, double occupancy plus airfare -

Pretty good deal for eight days in comparison to other trips!

Airfare ideas:

Getting to New Zealand is most southern of LIG sails.  It is in the better hemisphere and upside down.  But amazingly, only 3 hours difference from PDT.  From SFO, 17 hours flying time and at least one stopover.

The resorts on Marlborough Sounds each have their own charm and will all welcome us should we stop by. View them online

Reservations  --

We wanted to act early for the NZ high seasons.  We found that many/most of the boats that we would want are typically reserved a year early.  If we don't act by Winter 2023, there is less inventory.  As it turned out, by waiting to end of January, one of the larger sloops we had our eyes on was taken by someone else.  We had to downsize a bit to still get another boat.

Costs and Payments

Trip is budgeted at  $1500  per person, double occupancy.

We can go with as few as 6 people, or as many as 14 with two boats.

A $500 deposit is due immediately.   The balance will be due about 90 days before the trip.

  1. Paypal using the email: exegrec3 AT yahoo DOT com
  2. Venmo using ID:  @Joseph-Martinka
  3. Check to  1760 Laurentian Way,  Sunnyvale, CA   94087

The deposit is refundable only if we find someone else to go in your place.

This cost is for 8 day/8 night trip with one more night pre-board.  It includes boat, insurance, fuel, provisioning, beverages, some meals ashore, dock and marina fees, taxes.  It does not include your transport costs to the marina.
