The LIG sailing's 2019 New Year's cruise

Destination:  Marlborough Sound

  Dates:  Dec 30, 2018 to Jan 5, 2019
    Boarding and Departing at 10 am each day
    Possible pre-boarding the night before with early checkouts
    7 days and 6 nights.
 

 Considered by many to be one of the premier cruising grounds in New Zealand. The Marlborough Sounds are at the northern end of the South Island. It contains many deep and protected bays, fjords and sounds.

Cost Estimate:  $1400 plus airfare - s(if it were 2018.  More in 2024 no doubt.  Updated by Christmas after sufficient interest)

Airfare ideas:

Getting to New Zealand is tougher that other sails.  It is in the opposite hemisphere and upside down.  From SFO, 17 hours and at least one stopover.

At time of writing, a round-trip from SFO to Woodbourne, NZ(BHE) range from $1847 to $3010 and up.  It is holiday pricing.  It goes up from there if you plan on touring other parts of New Zealand as part of this trip.

Time is of the essence.  We want to act soon.

This is the NZ holiday season, and many/most of the boats we would be interested in are already reserved.  If we don't act in May, it is unlikely we can go this season.

Costs 

Estimate:  $1400 per person  (prime season for sailing at south latitudes)

This cost is estimated based on the expected number of people who sign up, the cost of the boat hat we have reserved, split provisioning (the food on board), restaurants on shore, beverages, bar and a small buffer.  Some items are estimates, and are based on previous cruises. 

Any trip payment not spent will be refunded after we get back from the trip. 

The deposit of $400 per person is non refundable if you decide not to go, and another person cannot be found to take your place.  Full payment will be due on October 15th. 

Assumptions for boat and provisioning estimate: 

Late December sail for 7 days and 6 nights.  
An extra pre-sail night might be included - Friday on board the boats.

Split  provisioning on boat $40/day/person
Beverage allowance of $200 per person

        This estimate does not include airfare, souvenirs, extra nights lodging or other touring in New Zealand.
